about the artist
Recently retired from the workplace, I live in Whitby, a seaside suburb of Porirua City, at the foot of the North Island of New Zealand with Jan, my wonderful wife of 43 years. Jan is both my most valued critic and my biggest fan and I will always be grateful for her encouragement and support! Whitby has been our happy family neighbourhood, for the past 26 years, raising our two children into adulthood. I have my painting studio at home.
Our home overlooks the beautiful Pauatahanui Inlet that feeds into Porirua Harbour. It is an everyday pleasure taking in the vista of the sea, the mountains and the sky. The views are constantly renewed by the seasons and the ever-changing weather. The inlet continues to provide great artistic inspiration for me. Art has always been a passion from as early as I can remember however it was the 2002 move to our seaside home that finally spurred me to take up painting as a serious hobby.

I paint with acrylics and oils, the latter being a recent development which I am thoroughly enjoying. I like painting all types of subjects as the different walls of the Gallery Pages demonstrate, including landscapes, seascapes, people, still life and other. As well as formative high school art classes I've participated in a number of 8-session terms at Inverlochy Art School in Wellington as well as other local classes including a couple I particularly valued with Pauline Morse in Porirua - all in the cause of developing my skills and my own style, and more recently with Sara Brock at Inverlochy. The result thus far has been a home filled with pictures and colour. Many other paintings have left the fold as gifts or the odd sale.
The additional disposable time that I enjoy these days has motivated me to further develop my art and offer it for sale. I am also very happy to accept commissions to paint something you want (see the Commissions Page).

This web site allows me to exhibit my art in a far more worldly way. I am looking forward to keeping it interesting to visit, fresh with new art!
